Letter from the CEO - Lista CEO - 06 abril 2022

Update from Javier Marin our Publisher and CEO

First Quarter Greetings & Some Good News To Boot

Our growth in El Planeta Media continues unabated. It is unbelievable that we just finished one quarter of 2022 and it is eye-opening to see how the pandemic, economic uncertainty, and an international bloody war has influenced our lives in many ways. Since September 11, 2001, as a media proprietor, I never felt this much pressure and obligation to act and contribute to a huge need of professional journalism by investing in talent and the best content for our community. I am glad to have a team aligned with this mode of thinking. I can’t thank them enough. I need to thank our advertisers, sponsors, and corporate supporters who understand that continuing the traditional media investments done for decades is not enough to combat misinformation, and also not the most effective way to currently connect to our community with a good ROI.  We are pushing the envelope to make government entities, grassroots groups, and corporations react and realize that more need to be done in order to bring prosperity and progress to our Hispanic community. We are especially lucky to have the wisdom of Marty Baron, who was executive editor of the Washington Post until his retirement last year. He’s a member of our board of advisors, and his insight and advice has been invaluable. I simply cannot imagine doing this without his continued guidance. Photo: Editors' retreat with publisher and advisorsI am thrilled to welcome Rodrigo Martínez to our board of advisors. Rodrigo is CMO of CIC and CIC Health, member of the board of advisors of the National Alliance for Hispanic Health and previously he was Life Sciences Chief Strategist at IDEO, the global design firm, and a Principal with The Boston Consulting Group. Our board of advisors is now formed by my long-time business partner and brilliant professional Ana Julia Jatar-Hausmann, Marty, and now Rodrigo. The three of them fuel us with their experience, wisdom, and passion.  First 2022 Quarter Updates Editorial We are thrilled to announce that award-winning journalist Enrique Acevedo joined as a columnist. The hiring of Enrique for our national newspaper El Tiempo Latino based in Washington, D.C., expresses our commitment to publish professional content to our audience. He is a high-caliber writer with the pulse of the Latino community always front-and-center.

His first article about disinformation and misinformation, for example, clearly a seminal topic of late, shows his reporting and analytical skills that best serves our audience. We are happy and honored to be the window for his great journalism in Spanish.  El Tiempo Latino is proud to feature the famous Latino cartoonist Lalo Alcaraz. Here is just one example of some of his impactful work, where Alcaraz depicts Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky as El Valiente - The Brave One - in a card as part of the Mexican bingo game Lotería.

We are strengthening our editorial partnerships with The Washington Post, NowThis, Financial Times, WBUR (Boston’s NPR station), WAMU (Washington’s NPR station), Boston Business Journal and most recently the The Economist. Cannot be more proud of our own team of journalists who have bravely assimilated their important role as sense makers to our community. When people outside the company tells me that some days we look democrat and some days republican I always reply that we only serve one group: all Hispanics in USA. Other news We are among the 15 organizations selected to participate in the 2022 GNI  Ad Transformation Lab (coordinated by Google News Initiative and the National Association of Hispanic Publications NAHP).El Planeta Media served as a sponsor of: - the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce’s legislative summit.- The Mexico Conference at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government.- the 35th Edition Tribute to Mayors, as part of the Latino Leaders Network, Inc., a non-profit organization dedicated to “Bringing Leaders Together.” The group honored San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg.El Tiempo Latino received the Hispanic Heritage Foundation TikTok Grant! El Planeta, Boston's favorite Spanish-language daily, have collaborated with the Boston University Agganis Arena, the Boch Center for the Arts and most recently the TD Garden to design an innovative marketing platform to reinforce their leadership and expand their growth among all their Latino events. Through this alliance regional and national brands will have exclusive access to sold-out performances of artists such as Marc Anthony, Bad Bunny, Roberto Carlos, Daddy Yankee, J Balvin, Shawn Mendes, and others. With this move we have created the most effective and innovative way to sponsor Latino events nowadays. Our teamI always emphasize that we do not function as a family; we are inspired to work and perform as a winning sport team. Our organization is currently 65% women, and 11 nationalities, including multigenerational and LBTQ+ representatives. "Knowledge and Diversity for Progress" is our mantra. As you can see, we have been hard at work informing the fast-growing Latino community in the United States. The x8 jump in our readership tells us that we are on the right track – especially considering how other media organizations are shrinking. Our readers know to come to us for timely reliable hard news and information, while agencies, partners and sponsors know that they can count on us to reach that important segment of the population with real journalism. We still need to disrupt the usual tokenism of many big players and make them understand that embracing diversity and spreading knowledge will bring progress for all. Our commitment remains solid with all of you. THANK YOU FOR READING! STAY TUNED FOR OUR 2ND QUARTER UPDATE THIS SUMMER.
